Dear Parents:

When we return in January, we will begin our semester exam which will be a photo essay.  Students will use photography to demonstrate their understanding of the physical science concepts we’ve learned this year.

Because the subjects available to photograph on campus are limited, and I want to limit the time students may have to spend on this at home, I would like to be able to leave school grounds to allow the students to take pictures of things in our community.  We will walk as a group around this area of town only.  I would like to be able to take my students through the neighborhood across the street from Rollings, to Azalea Park, or perhaps into Town Square.  (We will not cross Berlin G. Meyers.)  In order to do this, your child must turn in a signed permission slip.  Please read it carefully, fill it out, and have your child return it before we dismiss for the winter holiday break.  If students use their class time well, they should not need to take pictures at home (although doing so will increase the variety of possible subjects to photograph).

On photography days, students are asked to bring their camera to school.  If your student does not have a camera s/he can bring, I have two that can be borrowed and shared.  (If you are using one of my cameras, it might be a good idea to open your own Box account so that you can upload your pictures to Box before you leave class each day.)

If your family is upgrading your digital camera this year, please consider donating your used one to Rollings.  This may be tax deductible.  If the camera you donate needs software or other materials to make it work properly, please let me know, and I will do what it takes to make them a useful addition.

Thank you so much for a great first half of the year!  Happy holidays to all of you!

Mrs. Sauer
