October 31, 2011

Note to all:  As you complete today's assignment, do not cause stress for our guest teacher/parent volunteer.  BEHAVE.  If you do cause stress or issues, you know that I will cause stress and issues for you - INCLUDING forbidding you from see the faculty show this afternoon.

On Friday you learned about Newton's third law:  for every action there is a an equal and opposite reaction.  That is our last law for this unit!  (This week we will do two blue-book labs that demonstrate this law, and then we are finished with the blue book.)

As we approach the final test for this unit (planed for 11/9/11), we will practice what we've learned about the laws by taking a look at how they apply to rocketry.  Additionally, you will be spending time in review of all of the material.  This is the biggest test (longest and covering the most content) that you will take this year (other than your final exam in May).  It will take time and commitment to be well prepared.

Today you will review the big ideas in our content using an eChalk tool called "Forces."  I have created an exploration guide to go along with the "Forces" tutorial.  Please follow instructions, and work your way through the tutorial slowly and carefully.  You have today and tomorrow in class to work on this, so you do not have to work on it at home**.  (Tomorrow you will be with a guest teacher in lab 210.  Remember my expectations!!) By the end of class on Tuesday, you should complete the tutorial, and then turn in your work.  Just as we do with an Exploration Guide for a Gizmo, I will select some of the questions from the tutorial to grade.  You will transfer the answers from your work to a Quia session so that I can grade it more easily.  The paper version (or electronic version) will stay in your notebook (or on your flash drive).

If you are ready to begin, be sure you have clicked the link above to open eChalk, and then:

    a) open this file and save it to your flash drive, or

    b) ask Mrs. Abrahamson for a paper copy (these are in very small print, though), and then

    c) carefully follow the instructions as written in my exploration guide.

Note:  As I've shared with you before, this is a site from the United Kingdom, so there will be words that are spelled differently than we do and and symbols that are written differently.  Be sure to read the guide carefully for times when these differences may need to be further explained.

** You only have to work on this for homework tonight if you do not finish through section Y today in class.  Section G and turning in the exploration guide can be done in class tomorrow.  Do NOT try to give your exploration guide to our volunteer if you finish today!  It is your responsibility to keep up with it until the Quia session is available tomorrow.  If you DO finish today, you are NOT to use ANY other websites!  eChalk ONLY!
