Agenda
1. At some point during this class period, I will announce a practice earthquake. Remember the three steps (DC&H) and that you must do this QUIETLY. Because we are in the computer lab, you must be cautious not to unplug the computer equipment with your big 'ole feet!
Until that point (and continuing after), you will work on our next standard. Please copy today's standard into your notebook, and then move on to step two.
Infer an earthquake’s epicenter from seismographic data.
2. Today's lab requires you to locate the epicenter of an earthquake.
You will need BOTH of the links open at the same, and you will work through them simultaneously.
a. Open the Exploration Guide (in Quia), and read through it, answering the questions AS YOU MOVE through the e-lab. (If you are absent today, you will not be able to use the Quia version and will instead have to use this one.)
b. Open the virtual earthquake link. http://www.sciencecourseware.org/VirtualEarthquake/VQuakeExecute.html Remember to READ the activity. If there are words, they are for you to read!
c. If you have finished the exploration guide and the data table, summarize the mathematical process that scientists use to: Infer an earthquake’s epicenter from seismographic data. This is to be written in your notebook!
If you do not finish in class today, complete this for homework. You must use the non-Quia version, however. You will turn in your Exploration Guide answers on Monday, January 3, 2011, but please email a screen-shot of your completed data-table before January 3. (The data-table will be on the final screen after you complete the lab.)
Have a WONDERFUL,
restful, SAFE, earth-quake free holiday! ![]()
Blessings to you and your family!
