Sports Materials Activity 2 - Measuring the Rebound of Sports Balls

BEFORE doing the lab:

1.  Open/download the empty Excel file.

2.  Click "Save As" and save it to the DESKTOP.  Name it using the following format:

        period_membername_Sports_COR_data     Example2_bobbysmith_Sports_COR_data

3.  As you are working on your data, save periodically!

5 minutes before the bell:

1.  Save your file to the computer again.

2.  Open your class Box.

3.  Upload your file to the correct folder.

4.  When you are sure that it has appeared in the box, close the lid of the lap top and bring it to me.

HOMEWORK:

1.  At home, open the file (save to your own computer).

2.  Copy the data (ball type and average COR at both 100 cm and 200 cm drops) OR print the data table out and glue/tape it into your notebook.  If you can't get to the Internet at home, please keep your own copy while you do the lab.

3.  Answer the questions from the end of the activity.

Interpretations of the Data

1.  What are some reasons there may have been discrepancies in data from one group to another? (You'll have to discuss this with other groups who had the same ball.)

2.  Did the drop height affect the COR? How could you tell?  Did the difference in drop height have the same effect on all types of balls?

Reflections

3.  Did your results match your predictions?  If not, how did they differ from your predictions?  Explain.

4.  Do you think your reasons for your predictions were valid?  If so, describe what you observed that supported your reasoning.  If not, how would you modify your reasons, based on what you observed?
