Types of Rock
I apologize for being absent, but I have a sick kiddo. We will do our mineral identification lab tomorrow.
Anything that is unfinished in class must be finished for homework. If you need a pass to the library to work during lunch or recess, please get one from Mrs. Veal now.
Remember to complete all steps thoroughly and in order. A quality notebook = a high quiz grade and better test preparation.
ALL questions are to be answered using the BrianPOP movie OR the BrainPOP resources that come with each movie (FYI, Activity Page, etc.). Do NOT go off-site to look up stuff using different resources. You may not find the same answers I am looking for!
Minerals are the building blocks for some types of rock, but not all rocks are formed from minerals. You will use another BrainPOP movie to find the answers to the following questions.
What are the three main types of rocks?
What are the two types of igneous rocks and how are they different?
What causes the formation of a metamorphic rock?
List some of the ingredients that can make up a sedimentary rock.
Use the BrainPOP resources for the same movie to do or answer the following:
Under the Activity Page link, complete the section titled "Categorize It."
What is the most common rock type on the surface of the earth?
In what type of rock are fossils usually found? Why?
Metamorphism means? How is this related to rocks?
Trivia Bonus: What metamorphic rock was added to all medals given out in the 2008 Olympics?
To answer all of the above questions, use the BrainPOP titled "Types of Rocks."
