Please complete today's agenda in order.
1. Take your 7.1 homework quiz (homework assigned on Monday, 12/12). You are exempt if you had a 90% average on Monday when the homework was assigned. You can check your PS to see if you are required to take it. If you see "HW: 7.1 (open notebook)" then you ARE required to take it. If that title is not there, or if the "exempt" symbol is there (purple diamond?), then you are EXEMPT and may move on to step 2.
2. Turn in your Exploration Guide for your Triangulation Gizmo. Make sure you know the secret word.
3. If you have not answered the five online questions under the Gizmo, please do so now. This part is never accepted late due to absence!
4. A parent sent me a link to this YouTube video which does an EXCELLENT job of showing how much greater each tenth of a point of magnitude increases the energy output of an earthquake. Since we can't access YouTube while at school, I borrowed the video to share with you. It was uploaded by Nathan Becker (whom I think is a NOAA employee).
"This animation compares the relative "sizes" of recent and historical earthquakes. Each circle's area indicates relative energy release, color indicates tsunami potential (seehttp://ptwc.weather.gov/ptwc/about_messages.php), and labels indicate each earthquake's moment magnitude (according to USGS/NEIC), location, and the year they happened."
The video is currently showing on the SmartBoard, but you can also click here to view the video at home. (Sorry, but when I downloaded it, the circles became ovals...couldn't change it.)
5. Have you considered which assignments you'd like to drop? You can do this today or during holiday, but it must be finished by the end of the year - 12/31/11. Make SURE you record the secret word today so that you have it when you need it.
6. Practice for the test.
Do you want your 3D model to use tonight while studying? If yes, they are in the bags under the round table. Help yourself.
a. Use the resources I published at the beginning of the unit.
b. Play these games.
c. Use the folder we used yesterday. (They are on the round table.)
